Hooray! The Latecomers made Southern Living’s “Fall 2018 Releases We’re Excited to Read.” I’m especially grateful because this list curated by Caroline Rogers includes novels from a few of my favorite authors: Kate Atkinson’s Transcription, Barbara Kingsolver’s Unsheltered, and Gary Shteyngart’s Lake Success; new poems by Natasha Trethewey, Monument, new stories by the late, lamented Lucia Berlin, Evening in Paradise, essays by Jonathan Franzen in The End of the Earth and a biography by Edward Carey that sounds temptingly off-the-wall: Little, about an orphan who learned to sculpt in Revolutionary-era Paris, and grew up to become the famed Madame Tussaud.
